How to get to Cardiff

Airports:

Cardiff International Airport is a circa 30-minute taxi- or train-ride away from the city centre. You can reach Cardiff regularly from Amsterdam or Dublin on a number of low-budget flights as well as more expensive KLM flights. The taxi will cost approximately £20 and a one-way train ticket should be no more than £5 depending on the time of travel.

Alternatively, Bristol International Airport offers a larger number of destinations including low-budget flights and it will take approximately 1.5 hours to get to Cardiff City Centre by public transport. Bristol Airport has a reliable and reasonably cheap bus link (every 15 minutes) to Bristol Temple Meads Station. Once at Bristol Temple Meads you will find a good and regular train service to Cardiff.

For overseas connections you can either fly into London Heathrow or London Gatwick. We would strongly recommend, if at all possible, not to fly to Stanstead or Luton; they are quite difficult and expensive to get to from Cardiff and all involve a substantial journey through London.

From Heathrow or Gatwick you can find a direct coach to Cardiff Central Station which would be your most direct and economical option. You can book the coach in advance as they are quite flexible should your plane be delayed. The coach takes 3 hours from Heathrow and approximately 4.5 hours from Gatwick to Cardiff.

HOW TO GET TO THE ATRiuM:

CARDIFF AIRPORT:

Cardiff Centre and ATRiuM are a train, bus or taxi ride away from Cardiff Airport. There is only one train an hour but the bus service is more frequent and leaves from outside the airport building. Alternatively, you can take a taxi which should cost between £20 – £25. The taxi service is available from the arrivals part of the airport and you can pay a flat fee in cash or by credit card there and then.

CARDIFF CENTRAL STATION & QUEEN STREET STATION:

The nearest station to the ATRiuM is Cardiff Queen Street and if you need to ask for directions or give taxi drivers instructions you may want to mention that it is the new building next to “Cardiff Prison”.

You can walk from Cardiff Central Station to ATRiuM, The Big Sleep Hotel, and Etap Hotel. ATRiuM and Big Sleep will take about 20-25 minutes and Etap Hotel about 30 minutes. Maps are available from Central Station or you can ask directions (see note above). A taxi should cost no more than £5-7 and you will find a taxi rank outside the main entrance of the station. Alternatively, you can catch a train to Cardiff Queen Street and the walk to ATRiuM and The Big Sleep will take 5 minutes and to ETAP 10 minutes. All trains departing from platform 6 stop at Cardiff Queen Street (1 stop away from Central Station). If you come out of Queen Street Station and turn left, you should be able to see the building already. The shortest way is to walk along an alleyway: turn left outside Queen Street Station and follow the road until you see the alleyway. Walk to the end and the entrance to ATRiuM is slightly to the left on the opposite side of the road.
To get to Talybont North from the Central Station you can take the bus No. X6 from the Central Bus Station (opposite the main entrance of Central Station). The journey should take around 15 minutes and the bus driver will tell you when to alight if you ask him.
