Future Entrepreneur Awards 2010

Dragon Opera'r Ddraig This year’s overall winner was Dragon Opera’r Ddraig, an initiative to support young musicians and technicians across Wales. The company was formed by two students from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Student soprano Rhiannon Llewellyn and musical director Alasdair Cowie Frazer from the team accepted the award from Vincent Kane, chairman of The Welsh Quality Centre, and Professor Gary Packham. They received the Future Entrepreneur Award trophy and a cheque for £1000.

The team will also benefit from a complete support package from Venture Wales that will help turn their business dream into a reality. This will include financial advice, business mentoring and access to a Business Angel to help promote their product in the marketplace.

Rhiannon Llewellyn of the winning team said “We are delighted and honoured to receive the award on behalf of the Dragon Opera’r Ddraig team. The prize money will help us to finance our next production.”

The University of Glamorgan’s School of Creative & Cultural Industries produced joint second place teams C3D, who provide 3D production services, and On-Par Productions, who specialise in golf promotion. The judges presented both teams with a trophy and a cheque for £500.

A group of students from Merthyr College also impressed the judges with their ingenious entry, Sensor Eyes. They received a cheque for £250 and a certificate for their efforts.
