Ffresh 2011

Ffresh 2011 @ ATRIuM Ffresh 2011, the student moving image festival of Wales, came to the ATRiuM campus on February 9th-11th.

The festival celebrates the best work being created by up-and-coming moving image talent around the world. It features screenings, panel sessions, master classes and workshops which are open to students and the general public.

This year’s highlights included:

  • Directing for Soaps – a panel with some of the leading directors in the field including Griff Rowland (Dir. Coronation Street), Terry Dyddgen Jones (Dir. Eastenders & Pobol Y Cwm) and Judith Dine (Dir. Emmerdale, Heartbeat & Hollyoaks).
  • The Art of 2D Animation – a talk by Peter Dodd, whose credits include the video for Melancholy Hill by Gorrilaz.
  • In a Lonely Place: A Screenwriter’s Masterclass – poet Owen Shears is among the experts who will talk about the various stages of getting a film from script to screen (including pitching, working with agents and producers, and the rehearsal process).

Ffresh Awards

The festival ended with the Ffresh 2011 awards, where a jury of industry experts recognised the cream of student moving image talent in Wales for their efforts. Many of the award winners are past and present ATRiuM students. Find out more about the winners here.

Ffresh was previously held at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre, but the festival is now a travelling event, and will tour throughout Wales starting with the University of Glamorgan ATRiuM in 2011 before moving to Newport in 2012.
