Glammies 2010

Some of the UK’s best up-and-coming young animators from the University of Glamorgan’s Cardiff School of Creative & Cultural Industries celebrated their success at the ‘Glammies 2010’.
Held annually, the ‘Glammies’ is held at a Cardiff cinema and enables students to showcase, to employers from within the industry, the high standard of animated work they produce during their studies.

Students have the opportunity to network with companies from within the industry, which include those in animation for television or those producing animations for computer games. These industry experts are also given the task of judging the students’ work.
22 year-old final year student Aran Saunders from Rhondda won the ‘Best Computer Graphics’ category on the day for his show reel based on ideas from the Rocky films.
The former Treorchy Comprehensive School pupil commented, “The Glammies is a fantastic opportunity for students to have access to some of the leading employers in the industry and for them to see our work. It is great to be able to make these links as we graduate.
“I am delighted to have won this award today. My experiences of studying animation at the University’s ATRiuM campus have been fantastic. The facilities for animation students are great and I would like to go on to use the skills I have gained here to work on animated feature films in the future.”
Matthew Rees is an animator working for Bristol-based Aardman Animation and was a judge at the event.
He said, “Events like this are great for employers because we see the wealth of talent on offer amongst these young graduates. I have been hugely impressed by the standards here which were high across all of the categories. There are plenty of jobs available in animation and I wish these students every success for the future.”
