Fans of stop motion animation listened in awe as they were taken behind the scenes of animated British hit film, Fantastic Mr Fox with an unforgettable weekend masterclass, held at ATRiuM.
Screen Academy Wales welcomed six members of the crew to take part in a lively Q&A session chaired by Robin Lyons of Calon. A Friday evening screening of the Wes Anderson feature was followed by a day-long session with our panel of experts:
Ralph Forster – Editor (10,000BC, Hannibal Rising)
Chris De Vita – Lead Storyboard (Chop Socky Chooks, Space Jam, The Ugly Duckling)
Andy Gent – Models supervisor (Corpse Bride, Dad’s Dead)
Tristan Oliver – Cinematographer (Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, Chicken Run, Wallace & Gromit in The Wrong Trousers)
Charlotte Owen – Production Manager (Corpse Bride)
Fred De Breheny – Production Supervisor (Coraline, Flushed Away)
We are also waiting to hear from the SFX and set design departments for representatives to join the discussion, so that all bases are covered.
This was an incredible opportunity to hear how the talented crew created and perfected the charming characters, and brought Roald Dahl’s beloved tale to life using stop motion animation.
“We are hugely excited to welcome such a distinguished crew to Wales for this event, as many of those attending are working on current high profile projects such as the new Tim Burton film it is excellent that people are willing to give up their valuable time,” said Hannah Raybould, Manager of SSAW.
“Following the success of last year’s weekend masterclasses and the numerous requests for more of the same type of event from students, we are expecting the weekend to be very popular with those attending all our courses.”
