Glamorgan media student blogs from television festival

August 21, 2012

Alex Fagan University of Glamorgan media student Alex Fagan will be live blogging from the MediaGuardian Edinburgh International Television Festival (MGEITF) in Scotland this week.

Industry representatives from around the world will attend the event, with this year’s speakers including Steven Moffat, Charlie Brooker and Ruth Jones.

Alex, 19 from Bideford in Devon, begins his second year on the BA (Hons) Media, Culture and Journalism course (formerly known as Media Communications) this September:

“Hello, my name is Alex and I’m about to head off to Edinburgh’s International Conference Centre to work at the UK’s biggest annual television event, the MediaGuardian International Television Festival (MGEITF).

I had no idea what I wanted to do in the media at the start of year, but my course has developed my interests in both television and journalism. In May this year I did some work experience in the broadcast journalism department of BBC Wales. The experience was amazing and I was hungry for more, so I applied and was accepted to work at the MGEITF.

Over 2000 delegates from across the industry will attend an array of events between the 23rd and 25th of August, including programme masterclasses, in-depth analysis and interviews, and advanced programme screenings and Q&A sessions.

You can read the whole programme for the event on the MGEITF website and see videos previous events on YouTube.

I’ll be working in The Tinto and The Moorfoot & Kilsyth as well as attending the Opening Drinks and Friday Night Party, where I hope to gain an insight to the industry, make some contacts and do some celeb spotting!”
