January 16, 2012

Louisa collects her award A journalism student from the University of Glamorgan has won a prestigious award for her fashion blog.

Louisa Marsden collected the yougo Clothes Show Live Young Blogger of the Year Award at the Clothes Show Live event at the Birmingham NEC last month. She received the prize for her piece on androgynous supermodel Andrej Pejic.

Louisa received £500 prize money, a link to her blog on the Clothes Show Live and yougo websites and free tickets to Clothes Show Live 2012. The award recognises rising talent in fashion journalism.

The 20 year old from Newport is currently in her second year on the BA (Hons) Journalism course at the university’s Cardiff School of Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI).

“There are so many fashion blogs out there, so it’s great to be recognised with this award” said Louisa, who hopes to work in magazine journalism after graduation. “Awards like this are really important as more and more journalism is becoming web-based. It’s an amazing platform for my future career and I’m so grateful to the judges for picking me. Hopefully it’ll inspire other young journalists to start their own blogs too.”

Louisa started her blog Paisley and Pearl, where she discusses the latest fashion trends, in December 2010. The page currently receives around two hundred hits a day. She entered the blog for the award after hearing about about the competition through her course.

“The journalism team are delighted with Louisa’s success” said Senior Lecturer in Journalism at CCI James Stewart. “She has proved that if you are determined to succeed and use new media effectively, you can make your mark in a very competitive world. Any journalism student can start a blog, and if they do a good job, they will be noticed. We wish Louisa every success.”
