The event is designed to showcase and promote innovative and forward thinking fashion talent from the University of Glamorgan.

Their project, entitled Turning Hard to Lets into Hard to Gets, involved creating a show home as a prototype for sheltered accommodation in Woodside, Newport.

A video by two University of Glamorgan BA (Hons) Visual Effects and Motion Graphics students has proved to be a huge hit online.
The short film, Space Hoppers in Venice, is the brainchild of 20 year old students Marko Anstice and Shelley Jones from Cardiff. It took just three hours to film and two days to edit, and cost virtually nothing to make. Now it has over 50000 hits on the Vimeo video sharing site.

Two BA (Hons) Interior Design students have won paid work placements with FITCH, one of the top 5 design agencies in the world.
Luke Gillard, 22 from Bridgend, and Aleksandra Rajska, 23 from Poland, will begin their work experience after graduation.
The chance to win the coveted placement came about thanks to a partnership between CCI and design consultants FITCH, who work with some of the world’s biggest brands including Disney, Microsoft and Coca-Cola.
Third year BA (Hons) Interior Design students were given the opportunity to work on a project set by the agency. Their brief was to design a spacial experience for one of FITCH’s current clients (Lego, McLaren or Vodafone), and combine it with another global brand of their choice to produce an unusual and innovative branding experience.

Welsh band The Hostages have received a huge boost in their quest for music stardom after winning the prestigious Battle of the Bands at the University of Glamorgan’s ATRiuM in Cardiff. The quartet, from mid Wales, beat off strong opposition including Zepher, Addison Avenue, Stars & Flights, The Vintage Sound, Trouble at Sea, Marcin and the Polar Sky, and We’re No Heroes. They emerged winners from a line-up of eight bands who took part in a live on-stage battle.

Krystal, who graduated from Glamorgan last year, has been nominated in the ‘Best Animation’ category for her short film, ‘Best Present Ever’ which she produced as part of her studies at the University’s ATRiuM campus in Cardiff.

A series of five posters illustrating train travel in the Rhondda through the eyes of Glamorgan students have been unveiled at a launch in Trefforest.
More than 30 budding animators and illustrators from the University took part in the project, which aimed to portray the scenery and people of the Rhondda Valley.
The students, who are studying for a Diploma in Foundation Studies Art & Design, developed the project in a partnership with Arriva Trains Wales, following a request to create a mobile art studio on train services between Treforest and Treherbert.

City Hall is run by Cardiff City Council and there is therefore the possibility that there will be Action and a small picket line of Unison members at the entrance.
The Music Academy launches its first courses

Fashion students no dummies

Glamorgan fashion students were given the chance to wow judges with their style by using clothes and accessories from one shop at a competition in Talbot Green.
Talbot Green Shopping Park teamed up with fashion students from the University for a unique fashion competition.
The first of its kind, the competition provided students from the Fashion Promotion course and Fashion Design course at the University the opportunity to demonstrate their fashion-forward flair by creating their own version of a key trend for this season, taken from the high street stores at Talbot Green Shopping Park.

Four Glamorgan graduates beat off competition from almost 800 entrants to be awarded the runner up prize in this year’s Shell Livewire Young Entrepreneur of the Year competition.
Conka Design, which is run by BSc Product Design graduates, began as a student idea while the four directors were studying at Glamorgan. Dan Ashman, Dave Poole, Chris Facey and Mark Hodge spent their last 12 months at university putting together a plan and organising everything they needed to start the business.

Glamorgan Film Academy graduate Ed Casey and colleagues from Newport’s International Film School scooped the Welsh BAFTA for Best Short Film at Saturday night’s glittering event in Cardiff.
“Mummy’s Boy”, produced on the MA Film Producing and Business Management course last year beat off competition from two other short listed films both made by industry professionals.

Purchase Prize Winners Announced

Welsh artist Andrew Cooper has been announced as the winner of this year’s University of Glamorgan Purchase Prize.
Andrew who lives and works in Cardiff won with prize with his work “Abracadabra”, a large sculptural piece made from 250 sheets of glass encased in a wooden cabinet.

Film Academy students win top Ffresh Awards

Cardiff School of Creative & Cultural Industries is pleased to announce that two of the top awards at the Student Moving Image Festival of Wales “Ffresh” on Friday 16th February went to past and present students from the MA Film Producing and Business Management course at the Film Academy.
The joint Fiction Award, chosen from 60 entrants went to “A Scoundrel’s Marriage” produced by Jie Yuan and the Best of Festival Award went to “Mummy’s Boy” (Ed Casey).
