Student Stories | Photography | Sally Smart

Course: BA (Hons) Media Production
Year: 3rd
After studying an Art Foundation and experimenting with photography I decided to carry on my interest to degree level. It has proven to be an extremely good choice as I have been able to gain a solid understanding of the techniques and technical qualities needed in photography and have had many opportunities to put this in action. My interest in photography revolves around art and documentary, and the University gave me a place to explore these whilst being supported by the knowledge of both the academic staff and technicians.
The course provides a great balance between practice and photographic theory. It has allowed me to be introduced to a new and inquisitive way of looking at photography as a philosophy and a practice.
The photography teaching staff and the technicians are so helpful. Their door is always open if needing any help with projects and they offer you a lot of their time. Feedback is crucial in progressing with ideas and I am pleased with the amount I have received on my course.
The skills I have gained at Glamorgan, will allow me to confidently approach job opportunities knowing that I possess both an understanding of camera techniques and the ability to communicate my ideas effectively.
