Fashion and Retail Design

Thom Botwood, second year Fashion Design

Cultural commentators, Tucker & Kingwell recently stated, “The 20th century has proved to be the most fashion-conscious century so far, with the appreciation of clothes reaching a far greater audience through the development of mass-market production techniques and improved communications.”

At the Cardiff School of Cultural and Creative Industries we examine and nurture the synergy between commerciality and art with a goal to produce visionary designers primed for industry in fashion, retail and interiors. This prepares our graduates to be ready and equipped to become the new faces of design for the 21st century.

Industry specialists teach on our internationally recognised courses, and the sandwich degree year option provides the necessary on-site industrial experience crafted for an enviable portfolio. All courses work on ‘live’ projects and competitions, which are supplemented with annual international trips. These opportunities help equip our students to obtain maximum real-life exposure in the fast-paced and competitive work arena of fashion, retail and interior design.

Our students go on to graduate as rounded, focused, confident professionals, equipped for their chosen career path. Their portfolio of skills – grounded in leading-edge industry practices – supports a seamless transition into the job market.
